Course Overview
This Level 2 Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations (Bricklaying) is designed to recognise and enhance your knowledge, skills and competence as a bricklayer in the construction industry.
This course will suit a practical person with good hand skills. You will learn to demonstrate skills, knowledge and understanding in core subject areas, such as safety and welfare, productive working practices and erecting and setting out masonry structures in the workplace.
Topics covered on the course include:
- Erecting masonry cladding
- Erecting thin joint masonry structures
- Placing and finishing non-specialist concrete
- Repairing and maintaining masonry structures
The kind of learning experience you can expect on the course is a mix of classroom based theory lessons and practical workshops, where you’ll get to build solid brick walls to industry standards.
The programme’s teaching methods are highly rated by Ofsted, who described them as “interesting and purposeful, incorporating a wide range of well-planned learning activities that stimulate students’ interest and motivation.” (Ofsted Inspection May 2014).
You will develop your skills using industry standard facilities and materials both in your workplace and at the College. In 2014 Ofsted described the College’s workshops as “spacious and well- organised environments, where students can work productively, in an orderly fashion, using safe working practices.”
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE.
