Who is this course for?

This is a course to prepare you for an apprenticeship. Traineeships offer people aged 16-24 the opportunity to engage in substantial work experience with a local employer and improve their literacy, numeracy and employability skills at the College. Traineeships are expected to last between 6 weeks and 6 months and prepare students for an apprenticeship or sustainable employment. Traineeships are primarily targeted towards people who: are not currently in a job and have little experience of work are qualified below level 3 have a good chance of being ready for employment in 6 months.

What will I study ?

All Traineeship applicants will meet with Construction staff to explore their interests and discuss any additional learning support needs. Traineeships can start at any time of the year. The Construction Traineeship will be Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday each week for up to 6 months. Trainees will have the opportunity to focus on Brickwork, Plumbing, Carpentry, Site Labourer or a combination. Weeks 1-3: Trainees will attend Barnet and Southgate College, Grahame Park, and will focus on basic skills, site safety and achieving the trainee CSCS card. Students will visit the site of their placement and meet key staff. Weeks 4-5: Trainees will attend a work placement for two days per week and attend College for 1 day per week. A member of staff will liaise with the placement provider and the student during this period to ensure all parties are making the most of this opportunity. Weeks 6-7: Trainees will attend Barnet and Southgate College, Grahame Park and improve their cons

What qualifications could I achieve ?

literacy and numeracy qualifications based on their current abilities an appropriate CSCS card which will enable them to work safely on construction sites a Certificate in Job Search and Employment Potential.
