Structure
Content
This provides a general business foundation to enable you to undertake the more demanding study of subsequent years. You will study a range of core subjects such as: Global Business Context, Management and Organisational Behaviour, Business Information Technology Management, Political Economy of Work and Understanding Financial Information, with an option to study one module focusing entirely on your chosen language.
In your second year, your subjects will include: International Business Analysis, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Operations, Business Systems Management and optional languages.
In your final year, you will write a dissertation and study core modules such as: Strategic Management, and Organisational Analysis. These will be supplemented by two optional modules, which can be your optional language.
The modules shown here are merely to give you an idea of what you may study and they might change from year to year to reflect changes in business practice and changing student interests. Before you start an undergraduate degree at Bristol Business School you will be sent comprehensive information explaining which modules you must study.
Teaching and learning
Independent learning is a key aim. Lectures, workshops, or computer laboratory work take up to 12 hours per week. You should expect to spend at least twice as much time again in reading, group/project work, practical exercises, library and other research activity, and in the preparation of assessed work.
Assessment
Modules are assessed by a combination of coursework and examinations.
Special Features
Placements
You will be encouraged to spend your third year abroad studying and/or working. If you are developing skills in a new language (with the exception of Spanish) or choosing to take cultural modules you will spend your year abroad in an English speaking country, or study at a European Business School where courses are taught in English. If you wish to have Spanish as a named language in your degree, you will need to spend your third year in a country where that language is spoken. We have many partner institutions in France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, the USA and Mexico, with whom we have worked for many years. Feedback from students indicates that the experience of the overseas placement is both valuable and highly enjoyable.
