INTERPERSONAL SENSITIVITY Course Objective: often people do not understand why their communications fail to achieve desired results – instead of agreement and enthusiasm, there is misunderstanding, indifference or even hostility, and work relationships can become strained as a result.
This course addresses underlying factors in a positive way, offering a range of models and behaviours to explain how we communicate and why a different approach may be appropriate to different individuals.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
Describe the elements that comprise communication
Define what interpersonal sensitivity means
Explain how we form impressions of others
Explain the meaning and importance of matching
Identify the importance of values and beliefs in influencing how we view the world and therefore our interaction with others
Describe the belief cycle and how it affects our behaviour and experiences
Explain the importance of being able to see the other person’s point of view
Define life positions (I’m OK, You’re OK) and explain how these are relevant to how we interpret the world
Identify how our ‘ego state’ influences how we communicate and therefore how the other person may respond
Describe the Assertiveness model and how to recognise aggressive, passive and assertive behaviours in oneself and others
Explain the link between Assertiveness and a Win/Win approach
