This is an introductory course in computer programming using Visual C# - a modern general-purpose object-oriented programming language for building applications using Microsoft’s powerful .NET framework and the Visual Studio development environment. It is straightforward to learn and allows you to develop Windows applications quickly and with little fuss, but also has a great deal of depth for those who choose to take their studies further.

About this course

Write simple Windows programs using C# in the .net environment.

No. All the software you need will be provided. Microsoft Visual C# code and the Visual Studio express edition can be freely downed from the Microsoft website if you wish to work on your code after the course.

A comparison of C# with other languages, such as Java and C++
An introduction to object oriented programming and how it is different to other programming paradigms
Learn what a class is and writing your first C# class
Learn to use different types of variables, such as strings and numeric types
Writing to the screen
Reading from the keyboard
Making decisions with the if and else statements
While loops and for loops
Using built in collection types, such as lists
Creating, reading and writing text files
Dealing with syntax errors
Using the Visual Studio debugger to find and fix programming errors
Handling problems with try/catch/finally
Writing a simple Windows application.
