This course is an introduction to the art of the caricature. The methods of caricaturing are broken down into simple steps and techniques, such as implied personality, proportion, exaggeration and distortion. You will be shown how to achieve various techniques of achieving humorous likenesses through both practical classroom exercises and the study of renowned caricaturists such as Gillray, Searle, Griffin, Low, Hirschfeld, Scarfe, Steadman and Bell.
Drawing from life, photographs and memory you will use a variety of media including pencil, pen, brush, market and collage to create your caricatures with an emphasis on professional illustration techniques.
