Students should gain good understanding of the concepts and techniques of Person Centred Counselling, built into a three stage model of helping. The course is certificated by the COUNSELLING PSYCHOTHERAPY CENTRAL AWARDING BODY (CPCAB).
Learning is evidenced by meeting criteria based on these seven units which can be documented in a weekly journal, skill practice feedback from peers and the tutor to produce a complete portfolio.
To pass the course the portfolio work needs to be marked as ‘proficient’.

Course programme
The course is designed to meet the learning outcomes of the seven units set by the Exam board.
Each session in college will consist of material covering practical listening skills, a basic introduction to some theory (Carl Rogers and Gerard Egan), and short role play sessions using the skills covered in class.

- Establish the Helping Interaction
- Communicate Understanding of the Other Person’s Concerns

- Use Initial Counselling Skills within the Helping Interaction
