Course programme

Course review:

Do you want to start making your own clothes, but find all the terminology confusing?

This workshop is the perfect follow on session for beginners who are comfortable using a sewing machine, but need more advice about garment construction.

During the 2 consecutive saturday morning sessions you will use a pattern to make up a fabulous a line skirt

  • You will need to let us know which size pattern you'll need l
  • You will need to bring along enough fabric to make your skirt, we will advise how much to buy according to your pattern size. You will also need to bring along a zip matching your fabric. A light cotton is a great fabric to get started with, as it is easy to sew, presses well and will give your first project a really professional finish! fabric must be washed before the class to ensure your garment is washable.
  • You could choose to make up a 'Mock up' with calico that we supply instead of using your fabric. This gives you the opportunity to really make the pattern work for you, before committing to cutting up expensive fabric.
  • We will help you cut out all the pattern pieces, and then lay out the pieces correctly. Any pattern markings like straight of grain, place to fold etc, will be explained as we go along.
  • Once your project is cut out we will show you how to put together your garment, and teach you any specific techniques required like facings, waistbands, and zips.
  • At our studio you have access to a custom built cutting area, so no cutting out on the living room floor. We also have 6 sewing machines and all the haberdashery and sewing tools you will need throughout the day.
  • Tools and use of equipment included, just bring enough fabric to make your project and the notions(zips & things) that are needed to complete the garment!
