History

We are professional theatrical costumiers. Our skills range from costume construction and alterations to soft furnishings. We know lots of trivial information about a huge range of subjects, gleaned from years of listening backstage and in dressing rooms.

Advantages of studying here

We are a flexible company, and will tailor sessions according to the needs of our students. We offer stand alone workshops, that allow people to dip into sewing as a hobby without being tied to a long course. At most of our workshops all materials are included, along with the use of our custom built cutting area, and every student has a machine to themselves. CL and Alex are professional Costumiers. We bring a wealth of experience to every class, guiding you to cheap suppliers, and showing you lost of handy tips and tricks of the trade. Our classes are relaxed and sociable, we supply you with tea and coffee throughout every class. On our full day classes we offer scrummy cup-cakes to overcome the afternoon lull

What I would highlight: I couldnt even sew a button on before i did this course and now i can sew buttons, use sewing machines and even made a bag! I was so excited to discover how fun and simple sewing is, once you've been shown how to. Highly recommended for beginners but also to develop and build on current sewing skills.

What I would highlight: I spent a lovely Sunday at this begginners sewing class and came home inspired to get sewing again. I learnt all the basics to get me started and as there was only six of us in the class- I got lots of personal support from mentors Claire-Louise and Alex. I have already requested a sewing machine for christmas! I fully reccommend this course to all begginners.

What I would highlight: I thought it was great, except for 2 small things: I was a bit cold, and it was a shame my bag project took longer than the time allowed. But definitely still worth it and would go back for more courses.

What I would highlight: A really great course with excellent teachers. Very laid back friendly atmosphere. I went away feeling like i had really learnt how to use a sewing machine (miracle)and was very proud of my cushion. I did find the room a bit cold (mainly due to the concrete floor I think) so would advise very wooly socks, boots and a cardigan if going in the winter months. I will definitely be going back for more when i decide on a project.

What I would highlight: I had a lovely sewing machine sat at home gathering dust for two years until I, along with my sewing machine went to see Claire-Louise and Alex. They answered all my questions and were happy to show me how to use and care for my machine. I made a beautiful cushion to be proud of made of quality fabric and quality stitching. Help was available all the way along and we were given lots of very useful information. I would reccomend this course to anyone and everyone. Also, I can now sit at home and confidently thread my sewing machine, wind my bobbin and lots more! It's set in a lovely relaxed and friendly environment with lots of tea/coffee and fabulous cupcakes thrown in. Alex and Claire-Louise are the nicest and most helpful and friendly teachers that you could ever ask for. My cushion now has pride of place on my couch and I can't wait to make some more with the template handed out at the end of the class, just perfect all round. Many thanks, Gem x

What I would highlight: I went along because I've had a sewing machine sat in my cupboard for 4 years which my mum bought me as a birthday present. I'd been too scared to touch it! However, the half day session I attended was really inspiring - I was shown all the basics of setting up the machine and simple sticthes, hems etc. Then I made a cushion. It was a lovely morning - the teachers were very friendly and patient and really knew their stuff. The first thing I did when I got home was to drag out my old sewing machine and give it a go - and it worked! So now no stray scrap of fabric is safe around me...

What I would highlight: A brilliant course for anyone wanting to learn how to use a sewing mashine for the very first time! The course is well structured and fun. The teachers are extremely friendly, very helpful and take their time to explain everything in detail one on one. I have had a wonderful time learning how to sew a cushion and was delighted to take it home with me at the end of the course! An overall fab day!
