The aim is to extend your existing fusing skills and experience. You will build on existing skills and knowledge by learning new ways of applying frits and powders, learning more about how to bring texture to your work, forget sheets of glass - play with small components to build up a bigger overall piece. The aim of the course is to stretch your skills and imagination so that you can make more interesting and challenging fused glass work. Suitable for: Any one with basic glass fusing skills looking to extend their skills.

This course is currently run on request only for a minimum of 2 students (maximum 4).

About this course

The course builds on previous experience and focuses on techniques. The objective is to give you new skills to "play" with and make you think about ways you can manipulate the glass to bring beautiful results.

Aimed at anyone with some previous experience of fusing glass and wanting to learn more skills. Children above the age of 12 may attend but must be accompanied by a paying responsible adult.

You have attended my one day Introduction to Fused Glass course (Part 1) or have some previous experience of working with fused glass.

My class size is a maximum of 4 students making a small intimate learning environment. This allows the tutor to provide individual attention to each student. There is no minimum class size so once you have booked your place on the course you can be confident that the course will run.

Once a course date has been agreed and you have paid your booking fee, you will be sent course confirmation details. All you have to do then is turn up.

Course programme

Course review:

This one day course is aimed at people who have attended my one day Introduction to Fused Glass course (Part 1) or have some limited previous experience of working with fused glass. The aim is to extend your existing fusing skills and experience. The emphasis will be on teaching and learning so you will produce sample pieces for a series of technical exercises. To finish you will then make a larger piece using the skills that you have learned earlier in the day.

Course Content

  • How to introduce texture within the glass piece
  • Leaf inclusion within the glass piece
  • Firing schedules - how glass behaves in the kiln when heated and cooled
  • How to obtain different effects with different firing schedules
  • Cold working techniques
  • Things that can go wrong
  • Putting it all together for a final finished piece
