Course programme

The course involves assessment of occupational practices and procedures attributed to the area of study. Each candidate will be assessed on both their underpinning knowledge and practical ability to demonstrate required engineering operations involving the appropriate equipment. This is a short course that can be completed either on or off site as required to suit the customer. Successful completion of the course is via assessment of practices taught, and will lead to a College certificate of general competence. The course is taught through a series of practical demonstrations of various machine operations During the course, various skills will be taught, including: - Health and Safety requirements and legislation, including PPE requirements and emergency shutdown procedures - Basic machine operation and functions - Guarding and protection of rotating parts - The general calculation of machine tool speeds for various cutting tool technology, and material and the calculation of feed rates for various materials - Appropriate use of automatic (power) feed - Selection of appropriate tooling for selected manufacturing tasks - Safe setting of vices, clamps, and special jigs / fixtures - General maintenance of machinery, tools and equipment Any of the above can be tailored to suit individual requirements of the customer.The course is taught through a series of practical demonstrations of various machine operations.
