Course programme

General Course Content
This course has been designed to introduce students to the decorative possibilities that this medium has to offer. In addition to the traditional uses for marquetry, applications more commonly associated with other mediums will be explored.

Students will have the opportunity to saw-cut marquetry either by hand or machine. After completing a simple test-piece, students will be free to develop their own design ideas; choose from the many different designs offered by the tutor or proceed with project work.

Suitable projects to bring: Furniture with missing marquetry or parquetry decoration ( Restorers will be shown techniques for reproducing and replacing missing marquetry). Flat or turned woodwork which is to be decorated. Design ideas for domestic woodware such as coasters, place mats, house nameplates, placques etc.
