QuarkXpress is the industry standard software for the design, layout and editing of printed materials: books, magazines, leaflets, newsletters, reports etc. On this comprehensive two day course you will learn how to create and style a document from start to finish. Topics will include how to set up a document, add and edit text and images, use colour and ensure a document is ready for print.
Course content- The Interface: Introduction to the QuarkXpress interface, palettes and toolbars, navigating your document, using guides.
- Creating a document: Setting up a new document, saving a document, using Master Pages to alter margin sizes, creating columns, using text boxes and picture boxes, setting automatic page numbers.
- Working with text: Overview of fonts used in print, importing text to single and multipage documents, styling text using the measurement palette, using Style Sheets to format text, using the spell checker and Find and Replace command, text on a curved path.
- Working with Images: Overview of how images are used in print, resolution and picture quality, importing images into your page, using images in text, flowing text around images, resizing and cropping images.
- Using Colour: How to create new colours; how to create colours used in other documents; creating CMYK and pantone (spot) colours; using colour effectively; applying colour to text, images, boxes and borders; editing colours; adding colour to a greyscale image.
- Using tables: Creating tables in your QuarkXpress document, creating tables from text, editing tables, styling tables, colouring tables, adding images to tables.
- Preparing a document for print: Things to watch out for when sending a document to print, what to include, fonts and images, exporting a document as a PDF, exporting a document as an EPS file.
