The aim of the course is to “ensure that safety requirements are appreciated by those individuals employed as line managers etc., and enable them to review their own departmental systems for safety, introducing new controls or implementing changes as appropriate to make their workplace safer”

Course Content:

There are 8 modules making up the course:

  • Introducing Managing Safely - Advises managers that they do have health & safety responsibilities and this section sets out to underpin the fundamental points
  • Assessing Risks - Delegates will be asked to complete a risk assessment and also will help the delegates understand the difference between risk and risk assessment and shows candidates a simple scoring system
  • Controlling Risks - This section looks at cutting risk down, looking at the best way of doing this and how to choose the right method
  • Understanding your Responsibilities - This section looks at the law system and introduces a health and safety management system
  • Identifying Hazards - This section looks at the main issues that an organisation will have to deal with including Manual Handling, Slips, Trips and Falls, Working at Height, Access and Ingress, Fire Safety, Chemicals, Electricity, Physical and Verbal Abuse, Bullying, Stress, Noise, Housekeeping, Computers
  • Investigating Accidents & Incidents - Why should accidents be investigated, why things go wrong and when they should be investigated
  • Measuring Performance - How checking performance can help to improve health and safety. Delegates will learn how to develop basic performance indicators and looks at auditing and proactive and reactive monitoring
  • Protecting our Environment - An effective introduction to waste and pollution and looks at how organisations and individuals can get involved in cutting down environmental impacts

Assessment: Achievement of the objectives of the IOSH Managing Safely course will be assessed by:

  • A Multi-Format Assessment
  • Practical Risk Assessment Project
