Once delegates have attended and successfully completed this course, they will be equipped with the valuable knowledge they need to know about health and safety in the workplace, without
being bored with the unnecessary bits!
The course is not designed to turn delegates into ‘safety experts’, but focus on why health and safety is important to the individual, and how they can make a real difference to the welfare of themselves and their co-workers through changing their behaviour.
Employers can be reassured that IOSH Working Safely will provide their employees with a nationally recognised and sought after training course that is designed and quality controlled by
the Chartered body for health and safety. Delegates will receive a workbook that can be taken away with them for future reference and our highly qualified IOSH instructors act as a first point of contact for any further questions that may arise after the course has taken place.

Course programme

1. Introducing Working Safely – This module stresses the reality of human suffering behind the workplace accident statistics and emphasises the importance of personal responsibility and eliminating the myth that accidents only happen to other people.
2. Defining hazard and risk – Addressing the definitions of ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’ and putting them into everyday language that everyone can understand. This particular module emphasises that even the simple tasks, those which are carried out repeatedly can go wrong with serious consequences.
3. Identifying common hazards – All the main issues are covered in this module; entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise and manual handling. Each area is back by understandable and relatable examples in recognisable scenarios.
4. Improving safety performance – This module deals with systems and processes, ensuring that any health and safety ‘jargon’ that is commonly used is explained in clear and easily understood terms. The session bridges the gap between management and the workforce, encouraging delegates to play an important part in processes they may feel are not their responsibility, but that of their manager or supervisor.
All aspects of workplace safety, such as contract work, inspections, safe systems and permits, protective equipment, signage and emergency procedures are all focused upon through the delegate’s point of view.
5. Protecting our environment – The final module is a short but effective introduction to waste and pollution, leading to delegates looking at how organisations and individual team members can get involved in reducing their environmental impacts. Memorable and thought provoking facts and figures help to drive the reality of the situation home.
