Who is this course for?
This course is for you if you wish to gain in-depth knowledge of ICT skills and a career progression within the Information Technology industry. The ITQ is made up of a number of different units. Each unit contains an Area of Competence, which describes the standards of a broad area of work that a competent person should be able to perform. ITQ is an employer and learner-friendly award targeted at adults in the workplace.Its unique 'pick and mix' design makes it ideal for the workplace. The flexibility of ITQ means you can mould the qualification to fit individual job profiles. It is suitable for anybody who uses IT as part of their job.

What are the entry requirements?
You will need to have a Level 2 IT qualification and Basic Skills at Level 2.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose. Writing: You can present relevant information in a format that suits your purpose; structure your writing to help readers follow and understand your main points; spell, punctuate and use grammar accurately; construct complex sentences and make your meaning clear.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Level 2

  • Interpret information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; estimate amounts and proportions; make accurate observations and select appropriate methods to get the results you need. Carry out calculations: You can carry out calculations involving two or more steps, with numbers of any size, with and without a calculator; work with and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; convert measurements between systems (e.g. pounds to kilograms); work out areas and volumes; work out dimensions from scale drawings; use proportions and calculate ratios where appropriate; compare sets of data of an appropriate size and use range to describe the spread within sets of data.


What qualification will I receive?
You will receive the City & Guilds IT users NVQ (ITQ) 4322 Level 3.

Where can it lead?
You can go on to study National Certificate in Computing and could improve employment prospects.

What will I study?
Subjects you will study include Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, PowerPoint and Web Page Design. The ITQ can be tailored to meet your requirements.

How will I be taught?
You will attend lectures and practical sessions in the College's IT Suites using guides, on-line materials and work experience.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by simply building up a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirements of each unit, via practical or you can use units from other qualifications including e-Quals, to count towards City&Guilds ITQ. To complete the full ITQ qualification, candidates will need to achieve a minimum total of points: 180 points for level 3.

What support is available while I am on the course?
Students are supported by their tutor through the duration of the course. The College's extensive learning resources are available to all learners. There is substantial language support for students whose first language is not English.
