Your Course
p>This course aims to develop understanding of spoken and written Italian in a variety of registers. It provides a suitable foundation for further study at A2 level or equivalent. It also offers a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study for students who do not wish to progress to further study in the subject. You should expect to do 4 hours of homework per week, 2 hours set by the teacher and 2 hours of private study which the teacher will monitor through the use of a language diary.
The library houses a large variety of Modern Languages resources and you will also be able to access the Modern languages homepages on the IT network. Application for computer access is required.
The main Topic Areas are as follows:
· Youth culture and concerns: Music and fashion Technology:(e.g.MP3/blogs/mobile phones/internet/games) Relationships: (family/friendships and peer pressure) Drink, drugs, sex
· Lifestyle; health and fitness: Sport and exercise, Food and diet, Health issues (eg smoking, skin cancer, health services)
· The world around us: travel, tourism, environmental issues and the Italian-speaking world: Tourist information, travel and transport Weather (eg natural disasters, climate change) Pollution and recycling
· Education, and employment: Education (schooling and higher education), Education policy and student issues, The world of work (eg the changing work scene, job opportunities and unemployment).

Unit 1: Spoken Expression and Response in Italian ? Time: 8-10 minutes Weighing: 30%
Unit 2:Understanding and Written Response in Italian? Time: Two hours and 30 minutes ? Weighing: 70%

Learning Outcomes
During the course you will have the opportunity to:
· Develop a firm foundation, revising the grammar that you have met at GCSE, developing independent study, building up your skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) beyond GCSE standard and developing your ability to commit vocabulary and grammar to memory.
· Extend your use and understanding of a wide range of vocabulary and language registers to allow you to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in Italian through both the spoken and written word, using increasingly accurate, complex and varied language.
· Develop critical insights into and contact with the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where Italian is spoken.
Your Tutor
Anna Di Giovannantonio is a native speaker from Italy. She has worked as an interpreter and translator, taught a wide range of Italian classes, and worked as a supervisor and tutor at Cambridge University. Nominated as an Honorary Consular Correspondent of Cambridge, Anna also promotes Italian Cultural Events.

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.
