This course is for jewellers wanting to develop ideas and experiment with techniques for integrating colour into their practice. Discover designing with colour, contextualise with artists and jewellers innovating with colour, explore different materials and find your own working methods with a series of practical workshops taught by specialist tutors in Enamelling, and Anodising Aluminium. About this course
- Develop your own colour palette, designs and working method for integrating colour into your practice
- Have a good understanding of the creative and technical possibilities of enamel in your own jewellery designs
- Experiment with colour through sample making
- Recognise the possibilities and limitations of both enamelling, and colouring anodised Aluminium.
- Use different dyeing and printing methods for Anodised Aluminium.
- Create a colourfast surface.
- Select appropriate cold-joining techniques when using Enamelling and Aluminium.
- Source materials and equipment.
- Enable you to confidently apply what you have learned to your own practice, and work independently with the materials and processes.
Course Materials will be provided. Any suggested reading or preparation will be communicated from the tutor prior to the course.

10.03.18 Gesine Garz: Enamelling
- Practical session: More dry-enamel techniques (graphite drawing, riso screen)
- Creative use of decals in enamelling
- Creating a set of samples, which will allow students to find and recreate their favourite colours and techniques
17.03.18 Liane Wolf: colouring Anodised Aluminium
- Exploring a range of colour mediums for Anodised Aluminium, including water dyes,permanent inks and alcohol inks.
- Apply a variety of colouring processes and applications, to develop a series of samples.
- The sealing process to create a colourfast surface.
24.03.18 Liane Wolf: colouring anodised aluminium.
- Working with specialist inks and mono-printing techniques.
- Combining inks and dyes to create variation in tone, contrast, patterns and design.
- Discuss the possibilities and limitations of making and working with aluminium.
- Finishing techniques such as sanding, filing and polishing Aluminium.
