2. Course description To give you the best chance of succeeding in this competitive industry our course has been developed to provide you with a wide range of practical production skills.  As you would expect, writing and structuring stories is a big part of this, but as any current journalist will tell you, it is the wider skills we teach that will get you job opportunities.  We teach our journalists multi-platform skills. That means you will be able to present your ideas in the following forms: Print Digital/Blogging Video Photography Radio/Audio  Alongside these practical skills, you will develop an understanding of some of the legal frameworks that underpin a journalists work, study the way that the industry is structured and begin developing your own personal career plan. Many of our projects are written in way that allows you to explore a particular interest, whether that is sport, music or current affairs, you will be able to produce journalistic pieces that explore your likes.  To inspire you there will also be opportunities to go on international trips, visits to the BBC, film screenings, gallery based events and the chance to hear from special guest speakers.  Our course is assessed through portfolio work over the two years that you study with us. You will produce evidence that demonstrates your skills as they develop and have the opportunity to produce material for our online college news site. At the end of two years you will have a BTEC Extended Diploma allowing you to move onto your next step in the subject.  To help you make your next step after the course we will guide you with your university applications, give you the chance to attend our careers and industry weeks and offer you work experience opportunities.

Entry requirements Students must have ONE of the following:      4 GCSEs at grades A*-C, including English and maths          Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Media at merit, plus GCSE English or maths at grades A*-C          Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE maths and/or English          Adults 19+ who have industry experience BUT do not have the necessary qualifications can be invited in for interview. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method Assessment is continuous and will consist of a portfolio of reports, presentations and creative projects plus a final major project at the end of the year.
