For speakers of other languages, you will learn how to write news and features while improving your English at the same time. The course is designed to show you the skills you need for journalism in plain simple English from an experienced journalist.The TutorTony Padman became a journalist in 2000 starting off as a news reporter on regional and national newspapers. After a solid grounding in news, he turned to writing features on health, religion, sport, travel and food. He now works as a freelance newspaper journalist specialising in news, interviews, entertainment and general features.City Lit reserves the right to change course tutors from those advertised in this outline. This is highly practical course with both group and individual work. We will have discussions from articles including those from the tutor’s own work; short films showing how news and features journalists operate and produce their stories; writing exercises; group work and you have the chance to quiz the tutor on what it’s like to work as a freelance journalist.

You may wish to consider an English course offered by the English Department or some journalism courses.
All students are invited to join us at City Lit Talks Back, our monthly performance night for City Lit writers. Everyone is welcome, admission is free and there's no need to book in advance.
