Course programme
For:
Teams of 5-9. Can include anyone from the organisation. Previous lean training such as the NVQ is very important however, ideally teams should include several people from the project area along with people from other areas to provide a different perspective on the problem.
Format:
An initial ½ day training followed by five two-hour sessions with a skilled and experienced Peter Rowley Limited representative spread over five weeks.
Note: These times are approximate and assume all team members have already undergone the NVQ or other lean programme.
Aim:
Once an area of the business is identified as being a problem, usually through the process of producing a set of Value Stream Maps, a kaizen team can then be deployed to investigate and ultimately solve the problem.
Kaizen teams are the most powerful change agents available in a lean initiative and are critical in making the change from the current state to the future state, defined by the future state value stream map.
Kaizen team projects can be wide ranging so it is vital the members have a good understanding of the fundamental principles of lean and of teamworking and problem solving. The Business Improvement Techniques and Technical Services NVQ Level II programmes provide this understanding and knowledge and produce staff who are "kaizen ready".
The ½ day training session introduces the team to the roles of a kaizen team and to the standardised paperwork which is used in its meetings. This paperwork comprises pre-printed forms to aid the recording of minutes in a consistent manner and allows the members to participate fully and spend less time formatting notes.
The Peter Rowley Limited representative will attend the regular meetings throughout the project and will offer guidance and expertise, however the ownership of the project remains firmly with the team. Having undergone this kaizen team training a team will be suitably prepared to undertake subsequent projects unaided.
Kaizen Team Training for the Food Industry uses industry specific training materials and examples and draws upon Peter Rowley Limited's vast experience of training kaizen teams with Food and Drink industry clients.
