Learning outcomes and objectives

  • To be able to demonstrate to others in the workplace a practical knowledge of moving and handling legislation and the individual organisational policy and procedure for moving and handling.

  • To be able to demonstrate an understanding of how to pass on information to others through demonstration, observed practice and constructive feedback.

  • To assess the basic competence of others in the workplace to perform safe moving and handling techniques with people.

  • Includes observation by a qualified NVQ assessor and evidence towards NVQ Health and Social Care unit 360 - Move and Position Individuals.

This is a three day course which also requires three workplace observations to test competency in the 6 months following the initial training before certification.

Once qualified, candidates will become a ‘Key Mover and Handler’ and will be invited to attend update sessions at the St Monica Trust. Candidates may also wish to join the National Back Exchange in order to maintain their competence. This course will provide you with the necessary information to induct your own staff in the workplace, and is not designed as a qualification to teach people outside of your own organisation.
