An increasing number of police forces have mandated attainment of the CKP as a minimum entry requirement and many more are expected to follow suit. It is therefore vital that you choose a credible provider for your CKP studies.
The University is an approved provider of the College of Policing and the certificate is awarded by SFJ Awards (Skills for Justice), meaning that the award is recognised and respected by any police force requiring the CKP.
The certificate provides 23 credits towards the Diploma in Policing with any academic institution.
Facilitated by enthusiastic and experienced police trainers and investigators, the course is a blend of contact days and self-directed learning, making full use of the College of Policing’s virtual learning environment known as NCALT.
We are a trusted provider of education for over 100 years, offering this course with competitive and transparent fees. You are paying for quality education and experienced trainers at a credible University, not for hotel facilities, sandwiches and other gimmicks.
Our Campus is only a 2 minute walk from Stoke-on-Trent mainline train station, meaning that we are easily accessible regionally and from wider afield.

Course programme
The curriculum is structured into 10 individual units, satisfying parts of the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme, mandated by the College of Policing. At level 3 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework, learners will acquire an understanding of policing and police law. It covers a wide range of subjects, which include:
Using police powers in a fair and just way
Social and community issues and neighbourhood policing
Responding to incidents and providing initial support to victims and witnesses
Searching premises and searching individuals within a policing context
Participating in planned policing operations
Interviewing witnesses and suspects
Victim support
The criminal justice system
Legislation, policy and guidelines
Including the contact days, you should anticipate committing 240-300 hours to your CKP studies.
Assessment is comprised of a number of basic Q&A-type written assignments and closed-book multiple choice/Q&A-type examinations. Our assessment plan is completely transparent, making it simple for learners to understand how they should demonstrate their new knowledge and understanding.
As a learner you will be skilfully supported by your trainer and the entire experienced team to maximise the opportunity for you to succeed in your studies and our pass rate reflects this.
Our training and assessment team consist of individuals who have provided initial police training for many years, have ‘earned their stripes’ throughout careers as police officers and investigators and lecture on our policing degree awards. All trainers remain current in the field and have been approved by the College of Policing and SFJ Awards.
