Course programme
As part of your training, you will take an Edexcel BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science (QCF) and Level 2 Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. You will also complete the Edexcel Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities, which will provide you with skills to help you advance within your organisation.
The apprenticeship allows you to specialise in one of three pathways - Industrial Science, Analytical and Process Science, or Education Science - which can be tailored to the work you do.
You will need five GCSEs at grade C or above, or equivalent. The subjects must include English Language, Maths and one science subject.
You will also need to be in relevant employment in a science-related industry.
The assessment of your apprenticeship is an ongoing process throughout the year. You will have a number of specific skills and experience that you must get marked off by your employer or college tutor to prove that you reached a certain level of understanding.
At the College you will be assessed by doing written work and assignments which go towards your formal qualification. At the work place you will be assessed by your supervisor on day to day activities basis for your practical assessment.
Assessment is continuous and combines practical on-the-job tasks and periodic written tests to demonstrate your understanding. On successful completion of the course, you will be able to Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) status.
On successful completion of the course, you will be able to claim Registered Science Technician (RSciTech) status.
The science industries include some of the biggest global business and research organisation. As a Registered Science Technician, you can work supporting scientists and engineers in research and development, in analytical science, and in scientific quality assurance. This career could see you work anywhere from a local school to a major science facility.
