Course review:
This course is a practical, 'hands on' introduction to working with stones and cutting and polishing equipment held in our very own lapidary department on the premises.
Students will be taught how to use the machinery as well as to cut and form their own cabochon.
Please note we do not have the equipment to cut diamonds.
Skills Gained:
You Will Learn:
- An introduction to all equipment, machinery, grinders and polishers.
- How to find the best place to cut stones .
- How to make a dopping stick (Sticks with red setters wax, which stones can be set on to work on).
- The cutting and finishing of a hard stone i.e. quartz, agate.
- The polishing of more precious stones i.e. Mother of Pearl, amber and jet .
