In this course we will enjoy the evening ambience some of our most famous London Galleries. We will be exploring and discussing key works in the British Museum, V&A and National Gallery.
Works will be contextualized in terms of social and cultural background, historical period and artistic styles whilst foregrounding themes such as the human body, figurative vs. abstract, religious vs. secular. We will also compare and contrast the collections and their underpinning objectives.

About this course
- give three examples of how social and religious context impact the design of decorative arts
- feel more confident describing the styles and techniques used to create artworks
- Understand the different roles and objectives of the three museums we visit
- Give two examples of ways in which the way the exhibition space, museum layout and architecture affects our viewing experience.
You may wish to buy a notebook and books to support your learning, but this is not a requirement.
Please note we are unable to guarantee seats on gallery visits so you may have to stand and to walk between exhibits. You might prefer to invest in a lightweight portable seat.
