About this course
Our Latin course is useful not only to people who want to know more about the Roman period itself but to anyone with an interest in language – particularly the English language, but also Romance languages such as Italian and Spanish – per se: how it works at the structural level and how the vocabulary it uses evolved.
Although a knowledge of Latin is no longer a requirement for law and medicine, historically it has strong links with both, and a grounding in its basics would again prove useful and of interest to people working in those areas.

- complete beginners – those with no previous knowledge of the language at all, or
- false beginners who perhaps studied it at school but would prefer to start again from scratch
We use, as an anchor, the popular Cambridge Latin Course, supplemented by handouts focusing on a wide range of background topics; the aim being to enable the student quickly to read simple Latin texts and to provide him/her with a fairly detailed overview of Roman life, society and history.
If you have any questions about the course and its content you can speak directly to the class teacher, David Wishart on 01241 855671.
