Latin GCSE - not running this term

Your Course
In the wake of films like "300" "Gladiator" and "Troy" and a resurgence of interest in the ancient world, classical subjects are now more relevant t ouir world and culture than ever before. Yet, ironically, it has never been more diffiuclt to gain access to courses which can enable us to learn ore about societies which have so deeply shaped our own. Hence we are offering a GCSE Latin class open to absolutely everyone who has ever wondered what makes Romans really tick. We believe that Latin as a language is an excellent meants of improving powers of logical thought and written expression, but also see a study of Latin literature as a way of exploring th wider context of Latin, in its deeper meanings and significance for Roman culture (and our own) Actually learning Latin gives the student a window into the Roman soul which translations can never really do, and can lead to a very satisfaying (and useful) GCSE!
Paper 1: Language 1 (compulsory) Paper 2: Verse Literature(Compulsory) Virgil Aeneid 4 (selections), the story of Dido and Aneneas Paper 3; Language 2(optional) Paper 4; Prose Literature (optional) A small selectoin, including Pliny's letter on the eruption of Vesuvius Paper 5: Roman Life Topics (optinal)
Exam fess will be charged ?52.00 in 2009
An alternative approach - for any student who would like to seize this opportunity to learn Latin in its cultureal context with the suypport of a tutor, but who does not wish or need to progress as far as to GCSE examination within the next school year, it will now be possible to follow the Cambridge Latin course and to work towards certiicates awarded by the Cambridge School Classics Project. Please discuss your individual requirements with the course tutor
