BSL unit 1 is a one-term course over one and half lesson a week for those with little or no previous experience of BSL. This unit will allow you to gain competence and confidence in the production and reception of BSL; you will acquire basic language skills to facilitate simple communication with Deaf people. You will learn simple, everyday language such as meeting people, using numbers.

At the end of the term, you will have an exam which is conducted and assessed internally.

What can I do with it?
You can go on studying the unit 102 and 103 to get the full level 1 qualification. More importantly, you will find these skills valuable in everyday life and employers also see having a skill and awareness of the Deaf culture as a significant asset.
Other Information
As with studying any other language, you should have an interest in other cultures
and ways of life. You will get a Certificate for the unit.
