The Foundation Degree is evenly split between Law and Criminal studies and provides an insight in to both the law and the legal and criminal justice sectors.
In addition, there is a strong emphasis on personal and professional development and employability skills.
The aim is to appraise legal principles critically, to be logical and balanced in argument, to undertake research from legal sources, to develop clear and fluent legal skills.
The award will provide an insight in to the workings of the criminal justice sector and criminal law and related areas.
The theoretical parts are complemented by more practical elements including guest speakers, visits and moots.
The transferable skills acquired are valuable to employers and so beneficial when seeking work in the criminal justice system or legal sector.

Level 4 Professional Development Criminal Law Crime Justice and Society Law of Contract Introduction to Social Theory Citizen and the State Level 5 Legal Research Method and Skills Criminal Justice Law of Tort Work Related Learning Youth Crime Justice Policing and Social Control You will progressively develop specialist skills and interests in law and criminal studies. This course is delivered at the University Centre (formerly College House). An offer is 2 X D at A level or a merit/merit profile in a BTEC National Certificate qualification and English GCSE at grade C or above. We welcome applications from mature candidates who do not have the qualifications. Applicants for the part time course will be invited for interview to assess their suitability and be asked to provide evidence of working or being involved in the legal sector or criminal justice sector. International qualifications will be assessed against these criteria. Speakers of other languages will need to possess an IELTS band score of 6.0 (with no-less than 5.5 in any one element) or a recognised English Level 2 qualification. The course structure actively supports claims for Accreditation of Prior Certified Learning (APCL) and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). If you would like to apply for any of the Leeds City College full-time Higher Education programmes for 2017 entry, (unless otherwise stated) please do so via UCAS at . Progression can be to a related Top Up Degree, professional qualification such as Chartered Institute of Legal Executives Level 3, National Association of Licensed Paralegals Level 4 or related employment.
