2. Course description You will study how and why Law is made how the legal system operates and will also take an in-depth look at Criminal Law. Studying Law will help you to develop problem solving skills and to think logically and methodically. The AS course is in two modules the first of which covers how laws are made by Parliament and interpreted by the courts the function of the courts and the role of people involved with them such as judges lawyers juries and magistrates. The second module is an introduction to Criminal Law in the context of assault offences and civil law in the context of the tort of negligence. The A2 course is also comprised of two modules both of which focus on Criminal Law. The first looks at certain offences against other people such as murder manslaughter and assault and the second looks at offences against property such as theft robbery and burglary. Some defences such as intoxication self-defence insanity and mistake are considered in both modules. The second module also looks at the relationship of the Law to concepts such as morality and justice and uses material considered earlier in the course to examine these topics.

3. Entry requirements Five or more GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths. You also need to have achieved at least one GCSE grade B in a non-science subject. Also subject to QCA score.

5. Assessment method There are two written exams both in the summer term. There is no coursework element to this course.
