Law Career Skills Level 3 offers the chance achieve skills and techniques in law and business. It aims to provide opportunities for full-time learners to gain a nationally recognised BTEC qualification, which can help you to enter into employment in the legal sector or to progress to higher education such as the Foundation Degree in Business and Law or on to a Law honours degree. This qualification also provides a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life and to allow access to employment opportunities in the legal sector. You will study an Extended Diploma in Business Law, which will consist of a mixture of Law and Business modules, which will not only allow you to learn how the law works, but also how this would work in practices and chambers.

Course programme

Whilst studying for this programme you will complete the following units: Aspects of Employment law, Criminal Liability Relating to Business, Civil Liability Relating to Business, Development Planning for a Career in Business/Law, Aspects of Contract and Business Law, Recruitment and Selection in Business and Developing Teams in Business/Law plus two optional units.. These subjects will allow for a broad knowledge of not only Law, but of Business too.

There will also be a two week work experience placement, which will allow you to see a real working environment and allow you to use the skills that you have gained on the course.


This programme of study is assessed by way of practical assessments e.g. presentations, controlled assessments, role plays and reports/portfolios.


During your second year of study you will experience a minimum of 2 weeks work experience/skills. These skills will enhance your employability and will give you a real and practical insight into how a legal practice operates.

Upon completion of both qualifications learners can progress into higher education to study both Law and Business Degree programmes or onto CILEx Cert/Dip in Law and Practice.
