About this course


Access to a wide range of specialist resources and facilities provides exciting opportunities for learners to develop their skills in an active environment. Resources include cafe and training kitchens, sensory equipment, independent living bungalow, specialist workshops and facilities to support the development of horticultural skills*.
Learners will have the opportunity to follow a personalised learning programme within Foundation Learning.  Key components include the development of the following:

Course programme



This course is for learners who have severe or complex learning difficulties and/or disabilities and require a high level of additional support. It is designed to enable learners to make independent choices, develop their personal and social skills and to communicate effectively.


Delivery is through a learner centred approach involving a wide range of activities. This includes a high volume of practical based sessions, learning in the community and small group work.


Course Objectives
Learning for Living course aims are achieved by:



  • Developing skills in a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts

  • Empowering learners to make choices and communicate these to other people

  • Supporting learners to achieve increased levels of social and academic confidence

  • Encouraging learners to engage in activities by providing a diverse curriculum

  • Developing learners’ awareness of the world around them



Course Content

  • Horticulture

Entry Requirements

Course offer is subject to a successful interview and initial assessment. In addition, learners need to show a commitment and willingness to work towards agreed goals, and participate in all of the course activities.


Career Opportunities

Part- time supported or sheltered employment.


Course Progression

Following completion of the Learning for Living course it may be possible for learners to progress on to another adult Foundation Learning programme.

Applying for a Full-Time course


Our term starts the week commencing 5th September 2016,
however you may have different start dates depending on the course.
You will receive the details of your first day over the summer period,
