What will I study?

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
You will have the opportunity to go on day trips to various leisure and tourism sites. Examples in recent years have included Gatwick Airport, Chessington World of Adventure, Thorpe Park and the Sealife Centre. There will also be a residential excursion incorporated into the course; in recent years this has been mini cruise - Spain 2006, New York 2007, Barcelona 2008, Euro Disney Paris 2009. (Costs involved will vary).
How will I be assessed?
The course is made up of 50% exam and 50% controlled assessment. Unit 1 is externally assessed with a one hour exam and is a mix of multiple choice and longer extended writing questions. Unit 4 takes the form of a controlled assessment which involves students producing a portfolio of work for the unit.
What can I do afterwards?
If you complete the course successfully, you can progress onto the Advanced BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism or another Level three programme. For this, you should aim to achieve at least a C grade along with the general college entry requirements. Work based training in the leisure and tourism industry could be another option.
