Introduction:
Sport and Recreation, like any other industry, needs skilled managers and supervisors to ensure its smooth running. This course is designed with the diversity of the industry in mind which makes it a varied and challenging programme.

Study Mode & Location:
This substantial, day time, one year Advanced Level course will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent's Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
This course consists of 10 units (6 Mandatory & 4 Optional):

Mandatory Units
  • Solve problems on behalf of customers
  • Support the efficient use of resources
  • Plan and organise services and operations to meet expectations and requirements
  • Manage Yourself
  • Promote a culture of Health & Safety
  • Create effective working relationships


Optional Units
  • Maintain sport and recreation equipment and facilities
  • Supervise residential experiences
  • Maintain reliable customer service
  • Lead the work of teams and individuals to achieve their objectives
  • Contribute to marketing, development and promoting services
  • Develop opportunities in the community
  • Enable people with disabilities to take part in activities
  • Students may also have the opportunity to gain industry qualifications alongside the main body of the course. These include various Coaching qualifications and Sports Leaders Awards.


Assessment:
All units are assessed by an assessor observing practical work and asking a range of relevant questions. Some work will be covered through simulated tasks, assignments and written questions or worksheets. Over the duration of the course, you will gain valuable industry experience by working within our thriving Sports Centre which, together with your assessments, will contribute to your portfolio of evidence.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course will enable students to progress into a career within Leisure or Sports Centres or Outdoor Activity Centres.

Additional Information:
Students will be expected to purchase a compulsory College Sports Kit which will cost a maximum of £40. This kit must be worn for all practical activities.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with an Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
