Course programme
Using studies of papyrus documents found at Oxyrhynchus and elsewhere in Egypt, this course follows the lives and careers of a variety of people living in Egypt during the reigns of the Ptolemaic kings and queens of Egypt (from c. 300 B.C. to 1st century A.D.). We consider the benefits and drawbacks of both city and country life, the challenges of life in debt, in old age, and when competing for promotion when disadvantaged by background.
