The course is arranged in the following units:- Processing bookkeeping transactions - This delivers the basic language and concepts of double entry bookkeeping for sales and purchases. Control accounts, journals and the banking systems - This delivers the bookkeeping element and starts to look at basic accounting techniques. Working effectively in Accounting and Finance - Provides practical transferable skills and knowledge required to work in the accounting environment including all aspects of business communication, working independently and as part of a team. Basic costing - Looks at how organisations allocate and apportion costs. Computerised Accounting - Using Sage, students are able to translate their theory of day to day accounting tasks onto a current and popular computerised accounting system. There will be 4 computer based assessment and 1 computer based project. Some elements do include signification amount of writing. Literacy skills are as critical as numeracy skills. Success depends on a number of things, regular attendance, a professional attitude in lectures, completing homework and self-study. At least 50% more time than is spent in College should be spent working independently. Once all units in this level have been successfully completed you will be awarded a QCF Level 2 Certification in Accounting from the AAT, which is nationally recognised and can help to improve employment prospects and progression. We offer two study pathways for this level, the in-college pathway involves a blend of tutor and student led sessions which varies for each unit and may include additional work that may be delivered through the Colleges virtual learning environment. We also offer distance learning, where students are taught using our designated online interactive Moodle site and work through the units at home, with the support of college tutors. (Please see course description for more information). The skills taught include double-entry bookkeeping, communication skills and the Sage accounts package. Successful completion of a unit demonstrates to an employer your capabilities in that area.
