Course review:
The Mental Capacity Act Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards came into force on 1 April 2009. The act intends to protect people in care homes and hospitals from being inappropriately deprived of their liberty. The safeguards have been put in place to ensure that when someone’s liberty is restricted it is done safely and correctly and always in the best interest of the patient.
This course is intended for health and social care professionals who work directly with patients who may lack capacity, including patients with dementia. The course will support them when dealing with aspects of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). By the end of the course learners will have a clear understanding of legislation, including eligibility, the assessment of authorisation processes and renewal.
