Enhancing your practical skills and subsequent employability, this course is ideal for those students seeking a career in the horse industry or who wish to progress onto a higher level course. You will learn how to handle and work with a variety of horses and equipment. In addition to the highly practical content, you will study horse behaviour and welfare, nutrition and have the opportunity to learn how to correctly exercise a horse on the flat, if this option is chosen.

- Carry out and understand the principles of feeding and watering
- Understand the principles of horse biology
- Introduction to lunging horses
- Introduction to the principles of horse behaviour
- Undertake horse handling
- Undertake routine stable duties
- Undertake work-related work experience in the land based sector
- A choice of either:
- Introduction to riding horses on the flat
- Maintain animal health and welfare
- Functional skills/GCSE - English and Maths
Students will be assessed throughout the course using assignments, tests and practical observations. Students are encouraged to relate theory to practice in all assessments.
