This programme is designed for those who have already achieved Level 1 Certificate in Animal Care or equivilant. A satisfactory farm report is required and your suitability for the course is to be demonstrated at interview.

Course Overview
This programme is designed to meet the needs of students who have already achieved Level 1 Animal Care and wish to progress to a higher award.

Course Structure
The programme is delivered over one year with attendance at College and a local venue.
Students are expected to achieve a series of units and the amount of units decide whether an award certificate or diploma is achieved

Qualification Aims
City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 award, certificate, diploma in Animal Care

Assessments/Examinations
Students will be observed and assessed on practical work undertaken while on placement at the farm to ensure that they are competent within the workplace.
A portfolio must be compiled and students are expected to gain evidence for their portfolios from a variety of sources.

Cost / Equipment
Tuition is free to under 18 years of age, but there are additional costs:
  • £25.00 Materials
  • £50.00 Voluntary contribution towards travel costs
  • £102.50 Registration/certification (Registration and certification is free for students under 19 years)


Students will need to provide suitable protective footwear and waterproof clothing . It is essential that all candidates have a current Tetanus inoculation for health and safety requirements.
Students will be expected to supply stationery including pens, paper and folders
