The programme consists of nine units including diagnosis and maintenance of major automotive systems. Students will carry out assessed workshop tasks and classroom sessions to learn the underpinning knowledge, which will be assessed by written question papers, oral questioning, small assignments and on-line assessments.

The Automotive Department has excellent workshops, classrooms and dedicated diagnostic facilities.

As part of the programme students will also complete Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT at the correct level for the programme. Students may also complete the wider key skills: Working With Others and Improving Own Learning & Performance.

About this course




You will attend full-time three days per week for 36 weeks (less public holidays). A a tutor will be allocated to provide support and guidance and give regular feedback on the progress students are making.

The programme is studied on a part-time short programme basis over five days. This may be individual days or one week block release.

Course programme

This programme equips trainees with the essential skills needed to work in today’s motor vehicle repair industry. It has primarily been designed for 14-19 year olds, who will develop their skills through a mixture of classroom lessons, demonstrations, assignments and practical tasks.
At the end of the programme, an IMIAL Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles will be achieved. Students will also achieve Functional Skills. These are the core elements of English, Mathematics and ICT that provide an individual with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and at work.
To successfully achieve all units in the qualification must be completed, including all assessments (practical and theory), to a satisfactory level and maximum attendance is required.
