This course will provide the Apprentice with Carpentry and Joinery skills. The programme includes the following: Level 3 NVQ in Site Carpentry (Competency - what you will be assessed against whilst in the work place) Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry (Knowledge - what you will learn in College or from your teacher/assessor). Functional Skills will be a mandatory part of your programme and followed at the appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectivey and independently. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. Better functional skills can mean a better future - as learners or as employees and in everyday life.

Functional Skills are essential skills in English, Mathematics and ICT that enable everyone to deal with the practical problems and challenges of life - at home, in education and at work.

They reinforce skills in communication, problem solving, listening and time management. For example, they help us recognise good value deals when making purchases, in writing an effective application letter, or when using the internet to access local services or online banking. They are about using English, Mathematics and ICT in everyday situations.

About this course

It is expected that the attendance pattern will be a combination of both College attendance and workplace completion. The attendance pattern will be confirmed at induction or sign-up, but for Carpentry and Joinery apprentices it is usually College attendance for one day a week with the rest of the time spent in the workplace. There may also be 4 block weeks but this will confirmed.

Course programme

Apprenticeships are a great way of earning and learning at the same time. An Apprenticeship is a job with an accompanying skills development programme designed by employers in the sector. It allows the apprentice to gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills, required for their immediate job and future career. These are acquired through a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job training and the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context.
Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry (Knowledge), L3 NVQ in Site Carpentry (Competency), Functional Skills Maths L2, Functional Skills English L2, Employer Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Certificate
You will learn through a mixture of classes, group work, work-related activities and independent study and research. You will be taught in well-equipped general classrooms and workshops with the latest learning technology. As part of your programme, assessment is on a continuous basis with a number of assessments in each module.
