Course programme

Course Overview

You can choose between a one and two year course. After having successfully completed the one year course, which is equivalent to 1/1.5 A Levels, you can then progress on to the second year, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels.

This course is intended for those who are committed to working in the animation and games industry and who have a strong background in areas including art, IT, creative writing, and making animated games.

The first year of this programme will build a solid basis of drawing as a fundamental requirement for all animators and games artists which will underpin your animated and digital work. At the same time, you will be gradually introduced to a range of creative software and you will explore the history of animation, from the first animated films to contemporary apps, games, and adverts.

The second year will allow you to specialise in your chosen area of animation and game design and you will build upon your existing skills to reach an advanced level. You will undertake a range of projects such as character animation, walk cycles, idents, animated greeting cards, and interactive games. You will learn to use Adobe Photoshop, Premier, and After Effects for editing and special effects. You will also have the chance to explore Game Salad, Flash, and Scratch for interactive games.

You will be encouraged to take an experimental and open-minded approach to exploring ideas which challenge and develop creative thinking and making skills.

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview.

Please note advance applications for September 2016 for this course have now closed. However, you can still come in to apply and enrol during our open enrolment period between Tuesday 30 August and Friday 9 September. .
