AS/AGCE ART & DESIGN
With five different options available to choose from in AS/AGCE Art and Design we think you'll find a course that's right for you. Each option will allow you to experiment and explore personal interests and methods of working, Your AS year will give you a foundation in techniques and understanding, whilst your second year will allow you to further develop a style that is individual to you.
Don't worry if you're torn between two course options - you can choose to study two art options if you wish - this will count as two of your AS/AGCE course options.

What qualifications do I need to study on the course?
You'll need at least 5 Grades C or above at GCSE or equivalent. It is also recommended that you have a C in GCSE art - although entry can be secured if you have a portfolio of work which is deemed to be of a suitable level.
AS Fashion & Textiles
Fashion and Textiles will give you a broad insight into the world of textiles enabling you to discover personal interests and methods of working. Expect to learn new techniques and processes such as computer embroidery, reverse appliqué, fabric manipulation and a range of print and dye methods.
AS Fine Art
All the creative industries are a growth area in society today and the broadest of all the individual specialisms, Is fine art which covers a vast variety of media and techniques. These include traditional drawing, painting and sculpture alongside the more contemporary installation art, film, photography, printmaking and digital imagery. Through practical work you will have the opportunity to develop these interests further. Students are encouraged to explore media & other artists work to the full in order to best express their ideas.
AS Graphic Communication
Graphic Communication is an area which is constantly evolving and this course will appeal to students with an interest in CD, poster, book cover, advertisement, magazine and packaging design. Modern graphics constantly change, being influenced by ever changing cultures and trends - discover your own influences and create something new.
AS 3D Design
If you enjoy or are inspired by sculpture, craft and design work and you would like to explore this area further - through working with a variety of materials from clay to plastics then this is the art course for you. Gain inspiration from the work of other artists and explore new media to create your own style.
AS Photography
Mainly focusing on digital photography and manipulation this course explores a range of areas including landscape, still life, portrait, documentary and experimental photography. You'll research contemporary photographers and their work and explore your own creativity.
Method of assessment
All of our AS Art & Design courses are internally assessed through coursework.
What will I be able to progress to?
The majority of our art and design students will continue their studies with a foundation art course before specialising in a degree from the wide range of visual arts subjects available at university. You will receive guidance and help to prepare your portfolio for foundation art course interviews.
