Art and Design (Graphics)
AS/A2 Level - Two year course
This course will appeal to Art and Design students who wish to specialise in the creative area of Graphic Design. It is not based on the technology of graphics. Students will be expected to develop a knowledge and understanding of Advertising, Illustration, Packaging and Typography.

In year one (AS), students will study the relationship between ideas and art and graphic design practice. Art and Design History research is an important part of the course. There will be one externally set practical assignment.

In year two (A2), in addition to practical work, students will research, evaluate, analyse and establish links between their own practical work and the broader art world. Students will also produce a written project linked to practical final outcomes and will develop the ability to identify and resolve creative problems. The emphasis of coursework is on individual projects that promote personal interpretation and the development of individual style. Finally, there will be an externally set practical assignment.

Careers and Further Studies
This course is suitable for students who wish to study art, graphics and design at a higher level. It is appropriate for those looking to take up careers for which an art background is relevant (for example in advertising, graphic design/ layout, computer graphics or illustration) and for students with an interest in the subject but who do not intend to study it further.
