Design and Technology
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
This course encourages the development of independent learning, creativity and innovation. It supports links to the industrial and commercial world and gives the opportunity for design and technology to be treated as an integrated activity in which students design and make products which can be tested and evaluated.

Students should have an interest in design and technology and they will be encouraged to develop and sustain their own innovation, creativity and design and technology capability.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their skills in designing, modelling, making and evaluating products through practical coursework projects undertaken in both year one (AS) and year two (A2).

In addition, students will study Design and Technology in Practice and Designing for the Future. These units of work are assessed by yearly examinations.

Careers and Further Studies
AS/A2 Level Design and Technology can be used as complementary subjects to mathematics, art, and science-based courses, or to provide a contrast to humanities-based subjects. A Level Design and Technology is accepted for entry into Higher Education or industry. This is a valuable course for students seeking a career in architecture; product or furniture design; graphics; engineering; or just to broaden their post-16 education.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
  • An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
