English Language and Literature
AS/A2 Level - Two year course
This course combines elements from both the English Language and English Literature courses. It is particularly suitable for students who are close analytical readers, but who also have a flair for writing in a variety of ways.
The main emphasis of the course is on looking closely at how language is used in different sorts of writing from fiction and poetry to speeches, travel writing, scientific articles, radio and television interviews and plays.
Students will read both traditional and modern literature and develop their ability to comment on a wide range of spoken language and written texts. Students will also learn how to adapt their style of writing to different audiences for different purposes.
In year one (AS) study units include analysis of the Spoken Word and study of both fiction and non-fiction texts.
In year two (A2) study includes topic-based research leading to the production of students†own writing.
