Mathematics Double
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
Double Mathematics is a very useful course for students interested in studying mathematics, economics, computer science, engineering or any of the sciences at university. It provides essential background for success on application to Oxford or Cambridge University to study any of these subjects.

The course involves two A Levels in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. The first year of the course covers the same content as the AS Mathematics as well as the modules for AS Further Mathematics. AS Further Mathematics modules will be Mechanics, Further Pure 1, and Numerical Methods.

The pattern of tuition and learning, in terms of classwork and homework, is similar to the Single Mathematics course, but the volume of work is greater. Students need a graphics calculator - Texas Ti-83 is recommended.

In year two, the Further Mathematics modules include Further Pure 2, Differential Equations and Statistics 2. There is also an opportunity to enter for the STEP 1 paper.

Careers and Further Studies
Double Mathematics touches work that is usually met in first year degree courses in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Physics and Engineering, giving students proposing to study these subjects a flying start.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
  • An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
