Psychology
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
Psychology looks at a range of aspects of human behaviour in a scientific way. This course looks at psychologists†ideas about why people behave in the way that they do and at research studies that provide evidence of how people behave.

In the course, students will study:
  • Social Psychology â€" which tackles questions like: Why do we obey?
  • Developmental Psychology â€" which looks at, for example, how babies bond with their parents and what happens if they don†t
  • Cognitive Psychology â€" which looks at how we process information e.g. memory
  • Biological Psychology â€" which looks at the interaction between our brain and our mind, with questions such as: Why do we sleep?
  • Abnormal Psychology â€" which examines a range of disorders and therapies

Students will learn about designing research and analysing the data. They will also have the opportunity to design and carry out their own research studies.

Careers and Further Studies
Psychology combines well with a range of subjects, including arts and sciences. It is a good academic A Level for progression to Higher Education and is an accepted entry qualification for many careers. It is particularly useful for careers that involve working with people, such as nursing, teaching, social work, the police and prison service, personnel or marketing.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
1. An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must
include GCSE Maths and English Language.
2. At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
