Sociology
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
Sociology will appeal to students who are interested in social issues. It explores many aspects of social life and provides a framework for understanding different explanations of human behaviour. Students will have the opportunity to look at a number of studies carried out by sociologists.

In year one (AS), topics are selected from: Family and Households; Health; Education; Wealth, Poverty and Welfare and Research Methods. New terms and concepts will be explained and a variety of teaching methods will be used to illustrate relevant material.

In year two (A2), topics include Beliefs in Society, Crime and Deviance, Theory and Methods and the Nature of Social â€-Facts†.

Careers and Further Studies
Sociology combines well with a range of AS/A2 Levels from the fields of arts, languages, humanities or sciences. It is a popular choice at university, either as a Single Honours or as part of a combined degree. It is also a suitable subject for courses that lead into social work, nursing or the teaching profession. Other career possibilities include the media, marketing, business administration and personnel.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
1. An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
2. At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
